Cathedral of San Ciriaco

Two stately marble lions keep guard of the domed church with “Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic features” according to the Lonely Planet description of the Cathedral of San Ciriaco in Ancona. The church dates back to the 6th century but maintains its 12th-13th century appearance.

The best part of the complex in my opinion is the panoramic views from the piazza outside. There is a rather ceremonial walk up the stairs with views along the way.

Once you have arrived at the top, you can gaze over the lively port or to an idyllic and textured landscape meeting the Adriatic Sea.
